Due to inflation and the turkish lira becoming weaker and weaker over time, compared to the euro, the converted price of Umut's treatment has gone from 180€ (when his fundraiser was initially set up) down to 130€. Once the first donation has come in on betterplace.org, it is not possible to change the fundraising goal anymore, which is why the fundraiser still shows 180€ as our goal. Any extra amount of money that we might collect will still be used for feeding stray cats and former strays, paying off vet debt from previous treatments and for providing urgend veterianry care in new emergencies.
Umut was placed in a wonderful home with a wonderful family. He is still being cared for there.

Update: Umut was a child abandoned in the village. His eye was damaged because he was beaten by his friends in the village. He was taken to the vet. The damage to his cornea was treated. A neutering operation was performed, and Umut was given to a very good family.

He showed corneal staining (a sign of injury to the eye) and recieved eye drops, as well as treatment for his general weakness.

He was abandoned in the village. He was beaten by other cats because he was a shy and timid cat. He got hit in the eye and generally seemed very weak when I found him.
I had him treated and am happy to say that he has found a loving home in March 2025. He continues to live happily with his new family.

My name is Birben. I live in Ankara and have been trying to rescue and treat stray cats since 2014. Except for Oreo and Macaron, all my cats at home are spayed or neutered. I also try to treat and spay or neuter stray cats as much as I can. I feed cats in three different locations in my neighborhood. There are a total of 20-25 cats. I've tried to find homes for the healthy ones, but it's very difficult, or perhaps due to the situation in Türkiye, I don't give them away unless I'm completely sure. Many people in my neighborhood either inform me or leave sick or healthy cats in my garden. Therefore, including the stray cats and the care at home, we consume an average of 78 kg of cat food and 30 cans of cat litter per month. And I owe a total of 9000 euros to two veterinary clinics. The hardest part is the accumulated debt I can't pay and the fact that I can't reduce the amount of food I consume daily (2 kg) because I haven't been able to find homes for them. These two things are interconnected. Because my veterinary debt is so high, it's very difficult to cover the food costs. Because so much food and litter is consumed, I can only afford to pay very little to the clinic. I'm only trying to get support through Instagram, but I'm not getting as much support as before.
